Answers to 2 previous problems given in May (Tuesday, June 9, 2009 / 1:53 PM)

Hi Guys again! These were the sums given to 4 Integrity before the break, courtesy of Sheryl:

1) 3/10 of the runners in a marathon are Chinese. 3/7of the remaining runners are Indians.1/4 of the rest of the runners are Malays, 30 are Eurasians and 21 are Japanese.How many more Chinese than Japanese runners are there?

Ans: 30 (If you draw the 10 units, you will realise that 3 units = 51 ; 51-21 = 30)

2) Sam, Ibrahim and Doreen have a total of $105.Ibrahim has $7 more than Sam.The amount of money Dreen has is twice the total Ibrahim and Sam have.How much money do Doreen and Ibrahim have altogether?

Ans: $91 (Draw the model and you'll realise 6 units = 105 - 21 = 84 ; 5 units + 21 = 91)
